Lester Vasquez is a Teach Plus California and a Teach Plus Los Angeles Teaching Policy Fellow. Lester teaches 6th grade English, social studies, and math at the Florence Nightingale Middle School in Los Angeles, as well as 6th and 8th grade entrepreneurship at the school’s Business and Technology Magnet. Lester is the community engagement teacher, magnet lead teacher, and is part of the instructional leadership Team. In 2011, Lester became a founding teacher of Dr. Julian Nava Learning Academy in South Los Angeles and facilitated the rollout of its blended learning model. He has participated in the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Teacher to Teacher Panel and was recognized as an LAUSD Teacher of the Year. Lester is also a Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design in the Classroom Teacher. He graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a BA in Liberal Studies.
