Lisa Richardson is a 2021-2022 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Policy Fellow and an English teacher at Upper Darby High School where she provides instruction in African American Literature, a course she co-developed with a colleague. Outside of the classroom, Lisa advises the Black Student Union and two student clubs, Stay Woke and Naptually Imperfect Hair, and hosts an annual read-aloud event, Black Authors Rock. As a member of her high school’s Equity Team, she focuses her energy on encouraging and supporting the efforts of teachers, counselors, social workers, and paraprofessionals in removing barriers to student success. Lisa began her career in education 27 years ago as a reading specialist working with youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems in Philadelphia. She graduated with a BA in English Writing from the University of Pittsburgh and earned an MA in Educational Psychology with a reading focus from Teachers College, Columbia University.
