Liz Sanders teaches English at De Anza High School in her hometown of Richmond, California. At De Anza, Liz serves as the English Department chair, the faculty director of De Anza’s student-run Writing Center, and the faculty liaison to her district’s academic subcommittee. She founded and oversees her school’s Writing Center, which was awarded a WCCUSD Summer of Innovation Grant in 2014 and a Chamberlin Family Foundation Inspiration Grant in 2015, and now has a student staff of 50 students who have worked to make the Center financially sustainable and independent. Liz has successfully led negotiations to lower class size from 38 to 31 at her school site, and she currently serves as the vice chair of bargaining for her local union. Liz holds a BA in English from Stanford University and an MA in English Education from Columbia University Teachers College.
