Michelle Lockette is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Senior Policy Fellow. Michelle is a 9th grade English teacher at South Fayette Township High School in McDonald, Pennsylvania. She teaches her students the importance of empathy through a curriculum that celebrates diverse voices, sharpens critical thinking skills, and emphasizes social-emotional learning. As a Teach Plus Policy Fellow, Michelle published an op-ed on the importance of celebrating students’ identities and was a co-author of professional development material on the “Culturally Relevant and Sustaining Education” state competencies. As a public speaker, Michelle has organized a local TEDx event and delivered an official TEDx talk. Michelle currently serves on her district’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee in order to support and help lead her district’s dedication to this mission. She earned her BA in English at Washington & Jefferson College and her MEd in educational leadership at California University of Pennsylvania.
