Marcela Alvarez is a 2021 Teach Plus California Emergent Bilingual Change Agent who teaches in a first grade dual language classroom at Evelyn Thurman Gratts Primary Center in Downtown Los Angeles. She’s also the campus dual language coordinator. She is an alumna of the National Institute for Latino School Leaders (NILSL) Fellowship with Unidos US, the Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) Policy and Advocacy Summer Fellowship, and Teach for America San Antonio. Marcela completed a BA in Spanish and Chicana/o Studies from UC Davis, and is currently working on a MA in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Multicultural and Multilingual Education from CSU Northridge.
