Alexandria Matthews is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow and 2nd grade math, science, and social studies teacher at Hamilton Elementary-Middle School in Detroit. She is building representative for the Detroit Federation of Teachers. Alexandria previously served as an academic interventionist and has taught 1st grade and English language arts. She was nominated as a Detroit Public Schools Community District Rookie Teacher of the Year (2026) and was selected for a districtwide Teacher Appreciation Week educator spotlight highlighting her work in fostering academic ownership, student discourse, and student-centered learning (2023). She earned a BS from Michigan State University, MBA from Davenport University, and EdS in educational leadership from Oakland University. Alexandria is currently pursuing an EdD in educational leadership at Oakland University.
