Joanne McGuire is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Colorado Policy Fellow. She is an 8th grade science teacher at Prairie View Middle School in Henderson, Colorado. Joanne has been a teacher for seven years, having taught math and science, sponsored women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives, mentored students in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, coached girls volleyball and softball, and sponsored Saga Education programs. She was awarded the Colorado Teaching Award for Excellence in Secondary Science Education (2023-2024), Stargate School New Teacher of the Year Award (2022-2023), and presented at the University of Colorado Teachers as Policy Actors Forum (2024). She earned her BS in medical laboratory science from Austin Peay State University in Tennessee, completed her teaching program at the University of Colorado Denver, and obtained her MA in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in critical pedagogy from the University of Colorado Denver.
