Mauricio Orozco is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Illinois Affinity Group Facilitator and a high school special education teacher, science teacher, and instructional coach at Palatine High School in Palatine, Illinois. He focuses on supporting students with special and/or language needs in the classroom, including the development of their academic, social, and emotional skills. In addition, he supports the professional development of staff through his role as instructional coach. Mauricio has had several teacher leadership roles, including Special Education Department Chair at Schaumburg High School, and currently serves on Palatine High School’s Professional Development Council and Equity Committee. Mauricio currently serves as part of Local 1211/IFT LEAD Team’s Anti-Racist Committee (ARC), focused on building antiracist, justice-centered local unions. He earned his BS in biology and secondary education with an LBS-1 endorsement from Roosevelt University, Chicago; his MEd in curriculum & instruction with an EL endorsement from National-Louis University; and his MA in instructional leadership from Roosevelt University, Chicago.
