Dr. Bernadette Pilar Zermeño is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus California Emergent Bilingual Change Agent. Bernadette Pilar is a multilingual specialist supporting pre-k and transitional kindergarten classrooms in Oakland Unified School District in Oakland, California. She focuses on developing oral language strategies within pre-k-kindergarten while aligning pre-k-3rd grade. Bernadette Pilar is an adjunct professor throughout the Bay Area and passionate about supporting dual immersion programs. Bernadette Pilar was awarded the Soroptimist Region Scholarship for her leadership and ethnic studies development within her program. She is a proud graduate of Surge Fellowship. Bernadette Pilar is on the Children’s Initiative Oversight Commission, National Board Certified and working on her administrative credential. She is the treasurer for the California Kindergarten Association and board member of Forest and Tree. She earned a BA in psychology, MA and bilingual teaching credential from University of California, Berkeley, and an EdD in educational leadership from Mills College, Oakland.
