Deanna Roland is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow and kindergarten teacher at Prairie Ridge Elementary School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is the lower elementary English/language arts representative and serves on the career education committee through the Kalamazoo Regional Education Service Agency. Previously, Deanna served as a district literacy coach for Kalamazoo Public Schools and as the kindergarten grade level leader at Canyon Creek Elementary in Northshore School District. She was awarded Canyon Creek’s Parent Teacher Association Outstanding Educator Award (2022). She serves as a co-founder and co-lead for Promise to Read and as the Western Michigan chapter president for Beyond Bedtime, a national nonprofit that supports children facing adversity. Deanna earned a BA in elementary education with an early childhood (ZA) endorsement and MA in literacy studies from Western Michigan University.
