Sakennia Reed is a 2018-19 Teach Plus DFW Policy Fellow. Sakennia teaches language arts and speech and debate at “The” Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy, the first single-gendered public magnet school in Dallas ISD. After her first year of teaching in Dallas ISD, Sakennia received the award of Distinguished Teacher through the Teacher Excellence Initiative. Sakennia has since completed the Teaching Trust-Ed Fellows cohort program where she implemented proven results-driven strategies that increased her reading and writing scores for the STAAR test. Sakennia also leads the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy high school debate team as coach and mentor. Sakennia graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a BA in Communication Studies.
