Kristi Schmitz is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus Colorado Policy Fellow, 5th grade teacher leader, and math lead at Belmont Elementary School in Pueblo, Colorado. She also serves as her school’s Student Council sponsor and founded an after-school math club focused on reducing math anxiety. Kristi previously worked in finance for many years and volunteered for over 10 years at her current school before transitioning to teaching through the alternative licensure pathway. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Pueblo Education Association. Kristi earned a BS in business administration and mathematics from Adams State University and an MEd in elementary education from Colorado State University Pueblo.
