Shant’L Olovson is a 2021-2022 Michigan Collaborative Teacher Leader. She is a 9th grade English teacher at Pontiac High School in Pontiac, Michigan. In the past, Shant’L has served as Summer School Coordinator, KEY Club advisor, and piloted a course, titled “Freshmen Year Experience,” to aid incoming 9th graders to have a smooth transition into the world of high school. Most recently, Shant’L served on the Pontiac English resource committee to update the 9-12 ELA curriculum, and was recommended to join Oakland Community College’s Bridge the Gap Program (OCC-BtG) to improve students’ progression from high school to community college. For the 2021-2022 school year, Shant’L will continue her work with OCC and serve as a Building Representative for her teacher union. Shant’L earned her BA in Secondary Education (Business Education & English Language Arts) and MEd in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
