Shayla Ewing is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Senior Writing Fellow and is the English Department Chairperson at Pekin Community High School in Pekin, Illinois. Shayla is a Teach Plus Illinois Senior Policy Fellowship alumna who previously taught English and Drama and served as theater director. She has also served as a College Board Reader for the AP Language and Composition exam and as an ASCD Emerging Leader. As an educator, Shayla has a heart for stories, laughter, and teenagers. She received a BS in English Education with a minor in ESL from Olivet Nazarene University, an MEd of Educational Policy, Organization, and Leadership from the University of Illinois, and she is pursuing her EdD at the University of Illinois. She has been published in Education Week, Chicago Unheard, and more.
