Sheena Washington is a Teach Plus Maryland Teaching Policy Fellow. Sheena is a special educator, Individualized Education Program (IEP) case manager, and government teacher at Oxon Hill High School in Prince George’s County, Maryland. She initiated and chairs the Prince George’s Educators’ Association special education committee and serves on the professional development & leadership committee, as well as on the Maryland State Education Association’s leadership training committee and the special education taskforce. Sheena was a Teacher Leadership Initiative Fellow and a teacher panelist for NEA’s Real-World Perspectives on Public Education Congressional forum and has led professional development sessions through her district’s Office of Special Education and through her association. Sheena graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a BA in Political Science & African Diaspora Studies and went on to serve as a community & youth education Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, West Africa. She earned her MEd in Educational Leadership in Teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland University.
