Josh Smith is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Arkansas Policy Fellow. Josh is a 6th grade Science teacher at Carl Stuart Middle School in Conway, Arkansas. He leads students in a program called D3 which focuses on developing leadership and academic achievement in 6th grade male students. He also focuses on building in-home libraries for low-income students who receive a food backpack in a program called “Books with a Backpack.” Josh has taught math, literacy, and social studies throughout his career. He has also served in school leadership roles for eight of his 11 years. Josh was named the Student Teacher of the Semester and he is a graduate of the Arkansas Teacher Leadership Academy. He earned his BA in middle-level education, has an MA in building-level administration, completed the English for Speakers of Other Languages Academy, and will complete the Online Teaching Academy next year all at the University of Central Arkansas.
