Leon Smith is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Policy Fellow and a high school social studies teacher at Haverford High School in Havertown, PA. Leon is co-chair of the district’s strategic planning committee on diversity and inclusion and is a Grow Your Own Program developer. Leon was selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars 2020, and awarded The Domenick J. Recchiuti Humanitarian Award by the School District of Haverford Township in 2022. Since 2020, Leon has served as a mentor with Project IMPACT and is a founding board member for Mirrors in Education, a nonprofit that provides resources to educators of color to facilitate their recruitment and retention in Pennsylvania. He earned his BA in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a MEd in Instructional Systems from Pennsylvania State University Great Valley campus.
