Leon Smith is a 2025 Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet member and a high school social studies teacher in Havertown, Pennsylvania. He began his teaching career over 20 years ago, and recently, he was named the 2025 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year.
In addition to his teaching role, Leon is also a mentor with Project IMPACT, a program at Rowan University designed to increase the representation of males from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds in teaching. He also serves on the Pennsylvania Educator Diversity Consortium and the Teach Plus Pennsylvania Regional Advisory Board. Leon has previously participated in the Teach Plus Pennsylvania Policy Fellowship.
Leon earned his BA in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Maryland at College Park and earned his MA in Instructional Systems from Pennsylvania State University. He received his PK-12 Principal’s Certification from Cabrini University.
