Sara Smith is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Policy Fellow. She is a 2nd grade English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher and Wilson Reading System instructor at Taggart Elementary School in Philadelphia, focusing on teaching English learners the fundamentals of reading via structured literacy. Sara began her career teaching English abroad in Mexico and Ireland. She has served as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Coordinator, school testing coordinator, school-based teacher leader, and academic parent teacher training coach. Sara is also a Wilson Reading instructor at Reading Allowed, and was awarded National Board ESOL teacher (2012) and maintenance of certification (2022). Sara earned a BA in communications from the University of Maryland and a bilingual credential from the state of California. She has a master’s degree in instructional systems design with a focus in bilingual education, MEd in educational leadership, and is certified as a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner.
