Stephanie Spangler is a 4th grade teacher at Tubman Elementary School in Columbia Heights in Washington, D.C., where she teaches nonfiction reading and writing. Her role allows her to explore the shifts in nonfiction instruction necessitated by the Common Core State Standards. Stephanie is passionate about empowering her fourth graders to objectively analyze information and construct evidence-based arguments. Before coming to Tubman, Stephanie taught at KIPP DC for two years and was the recipient of the Teacher to Teacher Award for the 2012-2013 school year. Stephanie received her BA from Emory University, where she was awarded the Woodruff Scholarship and the Harry S. Truman Scholarship for public service.
