Kim Tate is a 2025-2026 Teach Plus Illinois Affinity Group Facilitator and 4th/5th grade instructional coach at International Prep Academy in Champaign, Illinois. She focuses on bilingual development and sociocultural competence, with an emphasis on critical literacy. Kim previously taught 5th grade in a Spanish/English setting and served on her school’s instructional leadership team. She is the recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching (2023) and the National Council of Teachers of English’s Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award (2022). Kim is a National Board certified educator and currently serves as Vice President of the Illini chapter of the Illinois Reading Council. She earned her BA in elementary education from Millikin University and EdM in education policy, organization and leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
