Yuritzin Toledo is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Illinois Early Childhood Educator Policy Fellow. Yuritzin is a Kindergarten DL teacher at Washington Elementary in Elgin, Illinois. She focuses on helping English learners and her priority is to provide them with support and guidance by sharing strategies that allow them to use their first language as a bridge to learn the second language. She is a great supporter of bilingualism and multiculturalism in her students. Yuritzin began her teaching career in Mexico as a rural preschool teacher in 2011. In 2013, she moved to the U.S. and worked in a few daycares before entering the field of education as an assistant teacher for a preschool scholarship program called EDCEC. In 2019, she started as a multilingual teacher in Palatine, and in 2020 she became a kindergarten teacher in Elgin. Yuritzin has dedicated 4 years to teaching five and six-year old children. She earned her BA in Childhood Education from Escuela Normal Vicente Guerrero in Mexico and a MEd in Dual Language Teacher Leadership from Roosevelt University.
