Derrick Walker is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. He is a 9-12 educator, student leadership advisor, and Climate Literacy and Social Justice Champion at Cesar Chavez Learning Academy-Technology Preparatory Academy in San Fernando, California. Derrick is co-chair of the English department, 9th grade instructional lead teacher, and holds a Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) micro-credential in anti-racist instruction, which drives his teaching pedagogy by highlighting social inequities based on race, class, and social status. He was a part of Teach for America (2021) and National Teachers Advisory Council (2024). Derrick graduated from Brandeis University with bachelor’s degrees in English and African American history. He earned a master’s in teaching from the University of Southern California and was recently accepted to Harvard University, where he will pursue a master’s in educational leadership.
