Arshala Washington is a 2025-2026 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow. She is a 10th-grade biology teacher, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Coordinator, and Early Career Teacher mentor at East English Village Preparatory High School at Finney in Detroit. Arshala served five years as Educational Consultant/Mentor at Detroit Public Schools Community District’s On the Rise Academy program and chaired Southeastern High School’s School Improvement Team. She has taught various grades 9-12. Arshala was named Detroit Public School Community District’s Teacher of the Year (2022– 2023), City of Detroit STEM Teacher of the Year (2021), and has been included in Who’s Who among American High School Teachers. She earned a BS in nursing and a master’s in biological sciences, as well as teaching credentials, from Alabama State University. Arshala also has an EdS from Eastern Michigan University.
