Tyler Wheeler is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Illinois Affinity Group Facilitator and a 6th grade math and science teacher at Jesse White Learning Academy in Hazel Crest, Illinois. Tyler is implementing a new district-wide boys mentoring program that will serve 5th-8th grades. The mentoring program will provide students with guidance, exposure, connections, and opportunities to better support their personal growth. Tyler is a Golden Apple scholar and a member of the school’s discipline committee. He was also a part of the school’s leadership committee. In 2019, Tyler was invited and participated in a study abroad trip to China, visiting Lanzhou and Beijing to study China’s education system. He earned his BA in elementary education from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, and an MEd in educational leadership with a concentration in teacher leadership from DePaul University in Chicago.
