Carolyn Willie is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. She is a restorative justice teacher for the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) in South Central Los Angeles and Restorative Community College Leader at Figueroa Elementary School. She served as Academic English Mastery Program (AEMP) facilitator (1997-2008 and 2012-2019), guiding teachers to develop culturally responsive classrooms to service brown and black students so that they access critical skills. Nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2013 while teaching at John Mack Elementary, Carolyn helped bring Culturally Responsive Protocols into the school community. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and the BSAP team at Figueroa Street Elementary School, she is a community activist. Carolyn is a graduate of University of California Irvine with a bachelor’s in social science, and University of California, Los Angeles, with her MEd in social justice leadership.
