Destiny Yates is a 2026-2027 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow and 4th grade teacher at The School at Marygrove Elementary in Detroit. She serves as the Altruismo House leader and Academic Games coach, and previously was an academic interventionist, 3rd grade teacher, Black Male Educators Alliance teacher fellow, and Teach For America mentor teacher. Destiny is a City Year Detroit alumna, Teach For America Detroit alumna, former TeachMichigan Alumni Board member, TeachMichigan Early Career Fellow, and Black Male Educators Alliance Teacher Fellow. She coached her Academic Games junior team to 3rd place in On-Sets at the state tournament and led her 4th grade scholars to top English language arts i-Ready results. Destiny earned a BA in education with a concentration in advocacy from Salem College and MEd in urban pedagogy and policy, along with a certificate in anti-racism, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
