Shannon L. Yrle is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow. Shannon teaches English to speakers of other languages at Legacy of Educational Excellence High School in San Antonio, Texas, where she also leads the staff wellness committee and provides campus-wide professional development on cross-cultural competence. Shannon began her career in education in San Antonio Independent School District as a special education teacher focused on school-to-work transition. She served in the Peace Corps as an English instructor at Neijiang Normal University in Sichuan, China, where she taught college English courses and led professional development for local teachers. After concluding her service, she worked for Peace Corps/China training education volunteers until the onset of the pandemic. Shannon completed the Peace Corps Master’s International program at the University of Miami, earning an MSEd in community & social change. She also has a BA in communication arts from Our Lady of the Lake University.
