Amber Ravenell (she/her) is the Interim National Research Director at Teach Plus, where she will closely collaborate with state leaders, teams, and teacher leaders in developing state policy research, lead and support national research studies, co-lead the Senior Research Fellowship, support and manage National Research Team staff, and plan and execute opportunities to represent Teach Plus in external settings.
Amber comes to Teach Plus with a background in research and education policy. Amber is a former elementary school teacher, having taught 4th grade in the Dallas Independent School District for three years. Upon leaving the classroom Amber pursued graduate study at Vanderbilt University working towards a master’s degree in education policy. Amber worked for two years as a graduate assistant at the Tennessee Education Research Alliance where she co-authored a research brief, Exploring Turnover Patterns Among Tennessee’s Teachers of Color. After leaving Vanderbilt Amber served as an Associate, Policy & Research at the Data Quality Campaign, supporting their annual teacher and parent polling and conducting research for several other resources.
Amber earned a B.A. in Journalism from Howard University and an M.P.P. in Education Policy from Vanderbilt University. She is deeply passionate about education equity and looks forward to contributing to the great research work at Teach Plus.
