Karen Amidon

Karen Amidon (she/her) joins Teach Plus as the Colorado Charter Teacher Advocacy Manager. In this role, she supports charter public school teachers in becoming strong equity advocates and leaders, bringing their voices to local and state advocacy campaigns.

Prior to joining Teach Plus, Karen worked for 15 years as a high school English and social studies teacher at Peak to Peak K-12 Charter School in the Boulder Valley School District. During her tenure, she mentored and coached preservice and early-career teachers and played key roles in curriculum development and equity initiatives. As a Teach Plus Fellow and Senior Policy Fellow for three years, Karen worked on initiatives to increase the recruitment and retention of a diverse educator workforce, develop culturally responsive schools, and expand successful Grow Your Own programs. She is also the founder of the Colorado High School Ethics Bowl, leading several teams to national competitions. Her career began in political advocacy for women and low-income families.

Karen holds a BA in English from Wake Forest University and an MA from the University of Colorado Boulder.
