Ramón Carranza, Jr.

Ramón Carranza, Jr. joins Teach Plus as Vice President of Federal Policy. Ramon comes to Teach Plus with a wealth of experience and a track record of successfully serving leaders across both chambers in Congress and the U.S. Department of Education. Prior to joining Teach Plus, Ramón served under the Biden-Harris Administration as the Deputy Chief of Staff to Deputy Secretary Cindy Marten in the U.S. Department of Education, and later as Director of Legislative Affairs for Higher Education. Before joining the Administration, he served as the lead education and labor policy advisor to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Earlier, he worked on K-12 policy for the House Committee on Education and Labor under the leadership of Chairman Bobby Scott.

Ramón began his career in education as a 7th-grade science teacher in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, where he also coached basketball and baseball and co-founded a youth leadership program that supported and mentored junior high students through successful enrollment into selective high schools. He later held several advocacy roles, starting as a community organizer who worked alongside parent leaders to advocate for equitable education for underserved students of color across Boston and New York City.

He holds a degree in Biology from Gonzaga University and a Master’s in Sociology and Education – Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University. Ramón lives in Arizona, where he enjoys spending time outdoors and cheering on all of his state’s professional sports teams.
