Dr. Jie-Qi Chen is Co-Director of Project Connect Plus. Before joining Teach Plus, she was a professor at Erikson, where she held multiple leadership roles, including Barbara T. Bowman Professor of Early Childhood Education, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dean of Faculty. At heart, Dr. Chen is a lifelong educator. She has taught learners of all ages—toddlers, preschoolers, elementary and middle school students, as well as college and graduate students.
Dr. Chen’s research interests include cognition and schooling, classroom assessment, teacher professional development, school reform, and early mathematics education. As a teacher educator, she has focused on building pedagogical content knowledge, creating virtual professional learning communities, and strengthening the connection between assessment and instruction. She served on the Governing Board of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Her impact extends far beyond the U.S. As a three-time Fulbright Senior Specialist in Education and a consultant to UNICEF, she has facilitated cross-cultural exchange and collaborated with educators on five continents.
