Ricky Flahive

Richard “Ricky” Flahive (he/him) joins Teach Plus on September 28th as the New Mexico Manager of Policy and Programs. In this role, he will help lead the state Policy Fellowship, equipping local educators with the tools to shape policy at the state and local levels. He will also support strategic partnerships, coalition engagement, and statewide policy initiatives that advance educational opportunities for New Mexico students.

Before joining Teach Plus, Ricky was Operations Manager with the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center and Community Representative with the San Diego City Council, as well as served in numerous roles with the San Diego Community College District. He also maintains a part-time career as a theater practitioner and teaching artist for several local organizations.

Ricky earned BAs in political science and sociology, along with a minor in theater, from the University of California, San Diego, and MEd in education policy analysis from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he was also an Equity and Inclusion Fellow. He resides in Albuquerque, NM, and enjoys reading, practicing guitar, performing in small community theater projects, and spending time with his two cats.
