As part of the Teach Plus Pennsylvania team, Karen coaches teacher leaders and works alongside school leaders in the Philadelphia area to elevate teacher voices and improve student outcomes.
Karen has been serving in the field of education for nearly a decade. Prior to joining Teach Plus, she was a school administrator in the largest district in Texas. As an administrator, Karen was a member of the school’s leadership team, coached teachers and led the school’s literacy department. Because of her contributions to the school’s progress, she was invited to create and facilitate professional development for teachers and leaders within the district. Through her efforts in coaching and leadership, she received an Excellence in Coaching recognition from the district’s Regional Superintendent. Before transitioning to her school leader role, she was an elementary Teacher Leader and was a recipient of the Delta Upsilon’s Young Educator Award. Her passion continues to drive her to elevate BIPOC teacher and student voices as she herself is a native Spanish speaker.
Karen holds a B.S. in Teaching and Learning and M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston, and a K-12 Principal Certification in Pennsylvania & Texas. She lives in the greater Philadelphia area with her husband (Marcus) and dogs (Zelda & Katy). Outside of work, she enjoys community volunteer work, food, crafts, and outdoor hikes and activities.
