Boston, Massachusetts, December 4, 2024—Teach Plus Massachusetts congratulates Luisa Sparrow, who teaches 5th and 6th graders with significant intellectual disabilities at the Oliver Hazard Perry K-6 School in South Boston and is a Teach Plus Massachusetts Senior Policy Fellow, on being named the 2025 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year.
“Luisa has gone above and beyond in her special education teaching career to ensure her students thrive. She exemplifies what it means to be a teacher leader, both in and outside her classroom. It has been inspiring to watch her evolve as a statewide education advocate with Teach Plus for the past three years, using her expertise to improve opportunities and outcomes for all students” said Chris Marino, Teach Plus Massachusetts Executive Director.
As a Teach Plus Massachusetts Policy Fellow and Senior Policy Fellow, Luisa has advocated for consistent, equitable graduation standards, and multiple pathways for post-secondary education and the workforce.
This was Luisa’s second year as a Massachusetts Teacher of the Year finalist. A National Board Certified teacher, Luisa started her career as a Teach for America corps member. She was a 2020 Fenway Bowl Honor Roll Top Educator and 2007 Rio Grande City Grulla Consolidated Independent School District (Texas) Teacher of the Year and serves on her school’s instructional leadership team.
