Teach Plus Congratulates Nevada Teaching Policy Fellow Richard Knoeppel on Being Named 2019 Nevada Teacher of the Year

Las Vegas, NV—Teach Plus congratulates 2019 Nevada Teacher of the Year and Nevada Teaching Policy Fellow Richard Knoeppel on receiving the prestigious 2019 Nevada Teacher of the Year Award. A high school architectural design teacher at the Advanced Technologies Academy in Las Vegas, NV, Knoeppel serves in various leadership roles including on the Nevada STEM Advisory Council.

“Richard is a thoughtful and caring educator who has dedicated his career to providing a quality education to his students and to elevating the teaching profession,” said Alex Bybee, Teach Plus Nevada State Director. “On behalf of all of us at Teach Plus, I offer my congratulations to Richard and his family on receiving this distinguished honor. We are proud to include Richard among our Fellows and teacher leaders.”

Knoeppel serves with his Teach Plus colleagues in a working group focused on providing differentiated career pathways for Nevada’s teachers. Through their advocacy, and in partnership with the Clark County Education Association and Nevada Succeeds, the Teach Plus teacher leaders have secured a bill draft request, sponsored by the Legislative Committee on Education, that would create a task force on the implementation of a robust career pathways framework.

Knoeppel is his school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) department chair and organizational team chair. He is a 2014 Magnet Schools of America Region VIII Teacher of the Year, and was inducted into the Clark County School District Excellence in Education Hall of Fame in 2007. Knoeppel is a graduate of the Teacher Leader Academy through The Public Education Foundation’s Leadership Institute of Nevada.
