Teach Plus statement commending Indiana’s Governor Mike Pence on the passage of teacher preparation program legislation:

“Teach Plus Indianapolis commends Governor Pence and the Legislature for the passage of Indiana House Enrolled Act 1388. This legislation emphasizes the important role teacher preparation programs play in the quality of the teaching force in our state,” said Caitlin Hannon, the executive director of Teach Plus Indianapolis. “It is particularly exciting that this bill incorporates recommendations from Teach Plus Teaching Policy Fellows including surveying alumni of teacher preparation programs and linking teachers’ evaluation scores to the preparation programs from which they graduated. Additionally, this bill requires the Department of Education to annually report teacher retention rates at K-12 schools across the state—a recommendation made by Teach Plus teachers in their 2013 policy brief Musical Chairs: Teacher churn and its impact on Indianapolis Public Schools. We know that excellent teachers are essential for student success, and this bill helps to ensure that all Hoosier students have access to effective, experienced teachers.”
