Teach Plus Statement on COVID-19

The outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) presents an unprecedented challenge and disruption to the continuity of schooling and education for our nation’s students. It has impacted educators, families, parents, and entire communities, with three in every four school-aged children facing school closures across most states and thousands of school districts.

While answers to many questions are not yet clear, the steadfastness, resilience, and ingenuity of our nation’s educators has been remarkable in the face of this crisis. On the front lines, our nation’s teachers are responding to the needs of students and their families in this challenging moment.  Teach Plus will redouble its efforts in this moment to empower teacher leaders to be partners with principals, district leaders, community members, and others in the service to students and families.

Our North Star has always been the development and support of excellent teachers in their leadership. As our nation navigates the challenges of these times, our Policy and Instructional Leadership Programs and Fellowships at Teach Plus remain open. We have moved all in-person meetings to the virtual environment. And we will continue to work with and support our teacher leaders to advance educational equity and excellence across the states and communities in which we work.

Our virtual doors at Teach Plus remain open as well. Our national and state-based staff are here to support all of our Teach Plus teacher leaders in this unprecedented time, and to support and care for the students and the families that they serve.

We cannot delay in responding to the urgent needs of our educators, students and families during this outbreak. Many of you have contacted us over the past two weeks with your questions, concerns, and offers of support. Please continue to reach out often – via email or social media – and let us know how we can help.  Now is the time for all of us to come together to ensure the well-being of students, teachers, and of one another
