The Teacher-Led Community Connections Network with RISD

Teach Plus has partnered with Richardson ISD to support 10 Teacher Leaders across 6 schools towards building their skills and exercising their leadership to facilitate school-based change ideas through professional learning communities (PLCs).

During the 23 – 24 SY, each Teacher Leader collaborated with their school based Leadership and PLC teams to research school needs, used data to determine root causes, gained student voice, and created an equity-centered theory of action plan. These plans aim to improve students’ sense of belonging and ultimately, the educational experience for all students.

Moving into the 24-25 SY, Teach Plus will support teacher leaders as they begin implementing their theory of action plans, measuring their progress, and engaging their PLC teams in redesigning their instructional practices to better meet students’ needs. Teacher leaders will facilitate bi-monthly PLCs using the continuous improvement process while also working to incorporate students’ and families’ voices in the design and implementation of those practices.

By the Numbers

  • 11 Teacher Leaders developing innovative solutions in their schools
  • Participating teacher leaders will receive a $4000 stipend and an additional $1000 for project implementation per year.
  • 2.5 Years of Transformational Impact

Teacher Leader Commitments:

  • Engage a team of colleagues in bi-monthly PLC meetings aligned to their theory of action plans.
  • Attend once monthly learning sessions with Teach Plus. 
  • Meet regularly with their Teach Plus coach to craft tailored leadership goals and gain individualized support. 
  • Collaborate with school leadership, share progress, and seek feedback.

Principal Commitments:

  • Support the work of your teacher leaders by creating time and space for them to host PLC sessions during their planning or dedicated PLC time. 
  • Check in on the Teacher Leaders’ progress at least once per semester.
