Ava Alexander is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Policy Fellow. Ava is an English/language arts teacher for grades 8-12 for the PLC program of the William Penn School District in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. She has been an educator for 29 years. She focuses on literacy and writing proficiency to prepare students for college education and career readiness. Ava has served as literacy coach, reading specialist, and Honors English 10 instructor in the districts where she has taught. She was chosen as a Bezos Scholar in 2022. Ava is the board vice president for “Change the Culture,” a nonprofit community organization. She previously also spearheaded a website called “Bright Futures for All” to provide resources to students for assistance with college and career readiness. She earned her BA in education from Loyola University in Baltimore, her MSR in reading from Lincoln University, and a principal certificate from Point Park University.
