Dr. Cyrisse Houston Allen is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow and a 6th-8th grade mathematics teacher at John R. King Academic & Performing Arts Academy in Detroit. Cyrisse emphasizes a multisensory approach to help students become proficient in mathematics and reading. Cyrisse came to teaching after a career in the military and as a corporate account manager. Cyrisse is the 2023-2024 SWAG Educator of the Year Award recipient and a K-8 mathematics master teacher. As an educator, Cyrisse has facilitated professional development sessions with the Pulitzer Prize Writing Center, CEAS of Michigan, & the REACH Arts Teaching program. Cyrisse holds a BS in business administration-accounting from Central Michigan University, master’s degrees in mathematics, economics, and instructional technology from the University of Detroit Mercy & Strayer University, a PhD in curriculum and instruction from Capella University, and a graduate certificate for educational leadership from Strayer University.
