Dr. Ryan Alvarez is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. He is a 1-5 grade physical education teacher, as well as an English Language Development (ELD) and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) middle school teacher at Elkhorn Village Elementary in West Sacramento, California. Formerly, Ryan was the teacher representative for the California Child Nutrition Advisory Council and Student Study Team coordinator at Elkhorn Village. He is department chair for elementary physical education in his district, chair of the Leadership and Administration Council for the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and an adjunct professor in Touro University’s EdD in educational leadership with an emphasis in leading innovative diverse organizations. Ryan earned his BS in kinesiology from Fresno State University, MEd in teaching and learning with an emphasis on English learners from National University, and EdD in educational leadership from Sacramento State University.
