Dawn Bates is a 2024-2025 Illinois Policy Fellow and 2nd grade teacher leader at Woodland Elementary School in Joliet, Illinois. She focuses on teaching students learning intentions and success criteria to help them take ownership in their learning by being a Teacher Clarity Certified Trainer. Dawn is a member of her district’s Science and Social Science Curriculum Writing Team and has served as a member of Woodland’s Data Team and Building Leadership Team. She has presented at the National Science Teacher Association Conference. She was a Joliet Area Great Teacher Awardee (2017) and became a National Board Certified teacher in 2019. Dawn is currently an expert teacher on the Uppercase app, where she shares resources and knowledge with educators. She received a BS in housing and environmental design from Illinois State University and MAT from Olivet Nazarene University.
