Fatim Byrd is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Senior Policy Fellow. Fatim is a Spanish teacher and equity team member at Mayfair School in Northeast Philadelphia. He focuses on teaching students Spanish literature and history. He particularly focuses on developing language skills through writing workshops and interactive media projects. Fatim began his teaching career 10 years ago. He is the former Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT) building representative for his union chapter. He meets monthly with the City Wide Talent coalition to help recruit more teachers of color. Fatim is a member of the Caucus of Working Educators, a caucus within PFT, and serves as one of the Organizing Committee members. In this role, he works to recruit and train members on how to be an organizer within their union. Fatim earned his BA in psychology and Spanish literature from Temple University. He recently earned his MEd in Spanish literature and secondary education.
