Tess Carlson is a 2025 Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet Senior Board Member and 11th and 12th-grade science teacher leader at the Mission Bay Hub in San Francisco, California. She teaches biological and life science in the context of medicine and academic research to foster students’ sense of belonging in STEM and academic ownership. She supports students in securing internships in medical centers and research facilities to enhance their learning experience.
Tess began her teaching career as a San Francisco Teaching Resident and has since taught various science courses at the high school level. In 2019, she became a Knowles Teaching Fellow and was named a 2019-2020 Stanford Teaching Fellow. Recently, Tess was a contributing author to a publication about students in STEM.
Tess earned her MA in Chemistry Education and a bilingual teaching credential from Stanford University. She earned her BS in chemistry and an Education & Educational Services certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
