Carina Casillas-Guerrero is an English language development and Spanish for heritage speakers teacher at Oxnard High School, California. She teaches students with limited or interrupted formal education. Carina has been an avid advocate for students through leadership roles including ELD department chair and Dual Language Committee member. She was recognized by the Mexican consulate in Oxnard and the City of Oxnard for her outstanding leadership, commitment, and contributions to her community and its youth (2018), and as Outstanding Teacher by the Rotary Club of Oxnard (2019). Carina earned a double Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Latin American & Iberian Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara with a year spent at Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain. A MEd in Education with an emphasis in teaching and her Spanish teaching credential from California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, and an MEd in Spanish from the University of California Santa Barbara.
