Jen Clayton is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. She is a 7th grade social studies teacher at North Monterey County Middle School in Castroville, California, serving as Social Studies Instructional Leader and Instructional Technology Lead. Jen has been an induction coach, mentor teacher for teacher candidates at California State University, Monterey Bay, cohort leader for Aspiring Classified Employees into Teaching (ACEIT) at University of California, Santa Cruz, Advancement Via Individual Determination(AVID) Site Coordinator, and Modern Classrooms Project Mentor. She was certified as a Leading Edge Professional Learning Leader (2015) and named Distinguished Modern Classrooms Educator (2024). Jen has been Associate Director of the Central Coast Writing Project and teacher leader for California Reading and Literature Project. She earned her BA in liberal studies, a multiple-subject teaching credential, and MEd from California State University, Monterey Bay. She also earned a master’s in educational leadership and an administrative credential from San José State University.
