Yamilis Cruz is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus Massachusetts Policy Fellow and an English and Reading ESL teacher teacher at Chelsea High School in Chelsea, Massachusetts. She is one of the union building representatives at her school, and also serves as her union’s webmaster and social media chair. Yami has been an educator for eleven years with experience as both a teacher and instructional coach. She is a first-generation college graduate and recently moved to Massachusetts from South Florida, leaving behind the majority of her Cuban family. Yami aspires to one day become a principal and is currently in her district’s leadership pathway program. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Education and a Master’s degree in Reading Education from Florida International University, a Specialist (CAGS) in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, and a second Specialist (CAGS) in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida International University.
