Aja Currey is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus New Mexico Alumni Policy Fellow. Aja is a rural K-8 charter school principal at Rio Gallinas Charter School for Ecology and the Arts in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Aja spent 12 years as a special education teacher and is a Teach Plus New Mexico Policy Fellowship alumna, Teach Plus National Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow, New Mexico Teacher Liaison and New Mexico Teacher Ambassador. Aja is a member of the 2023 cohort of the Teach for America Rural School Leadership Academy. She is also a board member of the local Kiwanis organization running the K-Kids youth service club at her school. She earned a BA in early childhood education, a BA in special education, and an MA in educational leadership from New Mexico Highlands University.
