Daniel Helena

Daniel Helena is a 2018-19 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow.  Daniel teaches 6th grade English at Kory Hunter Middle School in Los Angeles’s Huntington Park neighborhood. He is a member of his charter network’s teacher advisory panel and has developed and implemented curriculum on identity-building for 9th grade English at an LAUSD charter school. As director of the positive behavioral interventions and support team at a public high school in Metro-Atlanta, he led a team that drastically reduced the number of suspensions by creating a character-building curriculum and establishing systems that recognized student accomplishments. Daniel earned a BA in Journalism from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a MAT in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University.
